Olympic Rings Doughnuts

Are you as obsessed with watching the Olympics as we are? I don't know why it is but this time around I just can't get enough of them. I really should be spending my last few weeks of summer being productive but every night I somehow end up watching four plus hours of Olympic coverage. Good thing they aren't every summer : )

We went to an Opening Ceremonies viewing party at my parents house last week and I volunteered to bring a themed dessert. I was going to make one of my favorite American desserts but instead I got lazy and decided to go with something super easy but still super cute, Olympic Rings Donuts.

I had all kinds of ideas for trying out new doughnut recipes but in the end I went with something ridiculously simple that I already had on hand. I used Cinnamon Streusel Muffin Mix and poured it into my Wilton Doughnut Pan and baked them in the oven.

I then used my favorite Brown Sugar Cream Cheese Icing (because what goes better with cinnamon than cream cheese?) and mixed up the five colors of the Olympic rings. Embarrassingly easy. The rings would have probably looked cleaner/smoother if I had used a royal icing or glaze that would have dried smooth but since I usually go for taste over cuteness, I went with the cream cheese.

They were a big hit at the Opening Ceremonies party and the best part  is you can make them out of any boxed muffin mix you have at home and with any light colored icing you prefer. You could even go with store bought icing to make your life even easier. Go Team USA!

Make sure you stop by this week's Mealtime Monday and link up any amazing recipes you have been working on lately.

***Depending on the day this post may be linked up to any of these fabulous linky parties.***

Do you host a weekly party? If so, make sure to visit my party page and add yours so we all can join in the fun!
